Amazin Notes: Mr. 1000

May 30th, 2007 | By Joe McDonald | Category: NYSR Blog

In the midst of the 3-0 Mets loss to the San Francisco Giants, a seventh inning double by Paul Lo Duca gave him a milestone, his 1,000th hit.
“It means a lot,” Lo Duca said. “I am only 3,000 away from Pete [Rose]. It’s neat. Grinding away for seven or eight years, it’s an accomplishment.”
Given the [...]

Barry vs. Glavine

May 30th, 2007 | By Joe McDonald | Category: NYSR Blog

Tom Glavine had a tough first inning tonight giving up two runs with a single by Pedro Feliz. It should be interesting to see if the Mets can bounce back against Barry Zito. Although they have something going on here in the second.

Mr. Bonds Speaks

May 30th, 2007 | By Joe McDonald | Category: NYSR Blog

Before the game, Barry Bonds spoke to the media and although it was hard to hear him did not want to speak about the steroids scandal and also seemed not to care about baseball officials not wanting to be there when he broke to the record.
Well, it’s par for the course. Bonds said nothing and [...]

Could Mess Be In?

May 29th, 2007 | By Joe McDonald | Category: NYSR Blog

With Don Maloney out, the Rangers will need a new second man in the front office. Both Mark Messier, who desired Glen Sather’s job back in February and Adam Graves are candidates. As is Jim Schoenfeld, the Hartford GM.
Of the candidates, Sather will look to retain someone who will do the legwork Maloney did over [...]

Nice Comeback, But….

May 25th, 2007 | By Joe McDonald | Category: NYSR Blog

Am I the only one not happy with the win tonight? It looked like the Mets were going to run their way out of the game. First, Paul Lo Duca gets tossed out at third. David Wright doesn’t run back a trickler, which rolled back fair, then Carlos Delgado gets thrown out at second when he [...]

Leetch Retires

May 24th, 2007 | By Joe McDonald | Category: NYSR Blog

After sitting out last season deciding what to do, Brian Leetch finally made it official and retired from the NHL after 18 seasons.
The Daily News reported today the Rangers all-time leader scorer for a defenseman finally packed it in. He finished up with 240 goals, with 741 assists in 1129 games as a Rangers, while [...]

How Times Have Changed

May 20th, 2007 | By Joe McDonald | Category: NYSR Blog

Looking back at the first two games on the Subway Series, you can see how times have changed.
Think about it, in years past, it would be a Yankee home run going off a Met glove. They would have pounded a rookie like Joe Smith and acomeback like yesterday’s would easily be complete.
Just look at the Yankees [...]
