Nothing Amazin’ So Far
Dec 4th, 2007 | By Joe McDonald | Category: NYSR BlogDown here in Nashville, the Mets still are waiting for the chips to drop there way. Omar Minaya said today he spoke with more agents than teams which means he may be looking towards the free agent market. He also said he likes going the free agent route because it just costs him money, not money and players.
Now he contends his staff is fine and on the record he should say that because he doesn’t need teams to hole the Mets at randsom. That said, they still need a pitcher but will probably not get one done this week, which is fine. It’s still going to be a long winter and Minaya has some time. So far only one big pitcher was moved - Dontrelle Willis, who went to Detroit in a multi-player deal with Miguel Cabrera- and it would have been tough to get him in the division.
As I said before, the other pitchers may not get moved before Johan Santana get traded and if the Red Sox pull out, the door may be open again for the Mets. Why pay for Erik Bedard when the Santana may come into range. The Yankees seem to be out, so why not wait?
There’s still some time left and a trade can happen tomorrow or Thursday, but right now the Mets may disappoint fans from the Winter Meetings.
