Murphy’s Law: Isles Win

Mar 26th, 2008 | By Joe McDonald | Category: NHL Stories

UNIONDALE, NY – Call it Murphy’s Law of sports: When a team gets eliminated from playoff contention, then they play their best.

It could be because there’s nothing to play for or there is a lack of pressure.

Is Chris Drury the Ranger MVP?

Mar 19th, 2008 | By Joe McDonald | Category: NYSR Blog

After tonight I think he is.
Look, here’s a guy who is always in the right place at the right time and he works wrll on rebounds, wins faceoffs and comes up with that clutch goal, much like No. 11 did back in the day.
And just wait for the playoffs.
His goal in the third was typical [...]

Still 1-0 after 2

Mar 19th, 2008 | By Joe McDonald | Category: NYSR Blog

Ok, they did set up the offense and they did get some chances, but the power play has to come alive. The Rangers have one going into next period, so let’s see what happens.
Brodeur made some nice saves, but they need more than 14 shots to win this game.
Good job shutting down the Devils - [...]

Devils lead after One

Mar 19th, 2008 | By Joe McDonald | Category: NYSR Blog

The 1-0 score held up. It just doesn’t seem like the Rangers are able to set up the offense. Let’s see what changes they will make into the second.
Also their one power play looked bad. If the Devils power play is sponsored by PSE&G then the Rangers is brought to you by the ‘77 blackout.
BTW [...]

1-0 Devils

Mar 19th, 2008 | By Joe McDonald | Category: NYSR Blog

Dainius Zubrus scored on the Power Play with Michal Rozsival in the box for a 1-0 Devil lead.
It’s interesting because all season, I don’t remember the Devils taking an early lead like that.
I will have more as it comes in….

Nine Games To Go

Mar 19th, 2008 | By Joe McDonald | Category: NYSR Blog

Ok, after a few weeks of covering the Mets and some other personal stuff going on, I am back.
Tonight we get the Devils in New Jersey, which should be a blood war if the first five minutes is anything. Sean Avery is already out with a five for fighting and the hits are coming.
But the Rangers are [...]

JUPITER, FL - The Mets are taking on the St. Louis Cards today at Roger Dean Stadium. The Mets bought most of their regulars with them today, with the exception of Brian Schneider and starting today will be Mike Pelfrey.
It will be interesting to see Delgado and if he will be able to break out [...]

FLUSHING, N.Y., March 13, 2008 – The New York Mets and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today announced a wide range of sustainable environmental initiatives at Citi Field, the new Mets’ world-class home opening in 2009.  The Mets and their Queens Ballpark Company L.L.C., – responsible for construction of the $800 million ballpark – [...]

El Duque Throws Simualted Game with Good Results

Mar 12th, 2008 | By Joe McDonald | Category: NYSR Blog

After Pedro Martinez had his simulated game yesterday, it was Orlando Hernandez’s turn to pitch his today.
The eldest member of the Mets staff threw 60 pitches, 42 for strikes and gave up eight hits on what equated to three innings.
Afterwards, El Duque seemed very pleased. “I am happy,” he said. “I feel good. I throw [...]

Pedro Pitches Simulated Game

Mar 11th, 2008 | By Joe McDonald | Category: NYSR Blog

Instead of going to Fort Myers, Pedro Martinez stayed behind and pitched a simulated game today facing minor leaguers and Carlos Beltran.
By the reporters calculation he went four innings, giving up four innings and one run. He walked none and struck out two and topped out at 87 MPH.
Afterwards, the future Hall of Famer was very pleased [...]
