Rangers Sign Naslund and Kalinin
Jul 3rd, 2008 | By Joe McDonald | Category: NYSR BlogGlen Sather announced today the Rangers signed Swedish left wing Markus Naslund and former Buffalo defenseman Dimitri Kalinin. Naslund got a two year deal, while Kalinin is on a one year plan.
Speaking on a conference call, Sather pointed out Naslund was part of the Blueshirt plan to play more with puck moving and wide open. The 34 year-old played 12 years in Vancouver after the first three in Pittsburgh and has 371 career goals with 452 assists.
Naslund also played for Tom Renney in Vancouver and with Henrik Lundqvist in Sweden.
Kalinin fills the void left by the departing Fedor Tyutin and wil add depth to the blue line.
Sather added this ends the Jaromir Jagr era in New York who will be playing elsewhere next year, but he is looking to resign Paul Mara and possibly Brendan Shanahan.
I will have more later in a full story.
