FLUSHING MEADOWS, NY – In the box score, Jelena Jankovic’s third round win against Jie Zheng looked pretty easy, but it was harder than she expected.
The win in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5, made her work for the victory so much, she couldn’t even thing of what to say to the press afterwards.
“You think when I’m [...]

Something had to give. With too many lower line forwards, the Rangers needed to do something to ease the logjam.
So, general manager Glen Sather sent forward Ryan Hollweg to Toronto yesterday for a fifth round pick in the 2009 draft. With the signings of Aaron Voros and Patrick Rismiller, the trade for Fredrik Sjostrom last [...]

With today’s announcement of Sean Avery’s signing with Dallas for four years, $15 million, I am a little saddened by his departure.
It’s more than his ability to help the Rangers win. It’s the personality he brings to the team. When he arrived, he automatically became the best quote in the locker room and his [...]

Tom Renney looked loose as a goose today as he spoke to reporters before the game.
First he mused about a “N/R’ ron the wall at the Prudential Center looked like a “NYR”
Then he spoke about the goalies he played with joking they used to drink more than the defenseman [his position].
Finally he said he was [...]

My Sunday doubleheader continues. I was at Shea earlier and now sitting here at the Garden for Game 3.
Before the game, the media spoke with Tom Renney, who seemed very loose as his team looks to take control of this series by going up 3-0.
Jaromir Jagr came in and showed the press his Stanley Cup [...]

Ok, they did set up the offense and they did get some chances, but the power play has to come alive. The Rangers have one going into next period, so let’s see what happens.
Brodeur made some nice saves, but they need more than 14 shots to win this game.
Good job shutting down the Devils - [...]

Ok, after a few weeks of covering the Mets and some other personal stuff going on, I am back.
Tonight we get the Devils in New Jersey, which should be a blood war if the first five minutes is anything. Sean Avery is already out with a five for fighting and the hits are coming.
But the Rangers are [...]

After Pedro Martinez had his simulated game yesterday, it was Orlando Hernandez’s turn to pitch his today.
The eldest member of the Mets staff threw 60 pitches, 42 for strikes and gave up eight hits on what equated to three innings.
Afterwards, El Duque seemed very pleased. “I am happy,” he said. “I feel good. I throw [...]
